Did
you know that the Ferguson Forest Centre adjoins over
300 hectares of forested Crown land? That's more than
800 acres perfect for walking, skiing, and snowshoeing
along the many trails and forest roads.
The forested area adjacent to the tree nursery production
lands was not sold in 1995 when the Province turned
ownership of the nursery over to the township, and remains
provincial crown land. In 2001, the Ferguson Forest
Centre Corporation entered into a 10-year partnership
agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources to
manage the Nursery Forest.
Aside from developing and maintaining the forest trail
network, the partners plan to educate visitors through
the demonstration of management practices which promote
a healthy thriving forest ecosystem. It is our mission
to manage this renewable resource sustainably and to
the benefit of the plants and animals as well as the
people who use the Nursery Forest.
The Management Trail, a 2.3 kilometre self-guided walking
trail designed to further your understanding of forestry
in Eastern Ontario, takes you through a variety of both
natural and planted forest types common to this part
of eastern Ontario. Along the way you will find a number
of information stops designed to introduce you to a
variety forest management techniques. Our hope is that
you will learn something about forest management and
the environment in which we live. Enjoy your walk and
your visit to the Nursery Forest.
